General Information
The following information provides a simple overview of what happens to your personal data when you visit this website. This website is designed to be privacy-friendly and collects personal data only where necessary for operation (e.g., the contact form).
Data Protection at a Glance
Data processing on this website is carried out by the website operator. Personal data is not collected for profiling or advertising purposes. No registration is required to use the public methods, blog posts, and events. We use only privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics tools to measure anonymous visitor numbers.
Special Note on Anonymity
Open Practice is designed to be used without disclosing personal data. No tracking tools (such as Google Analytics) are used. Use of self-help methods, favorites, and UI preferences takes place locally in your browser and is not stored server-side or attributed to any profile.
1. LocalStorage, SessionStorage, and Language Cookie
This website stores your chosen language (German or English), your saved favorites (methods, blog posts, and events), your search terms on the methods and blog pages, and other UI preferences primarily in your browser. In addition, we set a technically necessary cookie for language selection (`openPathLanguage`, 12-month lifetime, `SameSite=Lax`) so that your chosen language can be displayed correctly on first page load. Favorites and search terms are not transmitted to any server.
Stored locally include:
- Language: key "openPathLanguage" (localStorage and cookie)
- Method favorites (numeric method IDs): key "openPathFavorites"
- Blog post favorites (numeric post IDs): key "openPathBlogFavorites"
- Event favorites (event ID and public event title for display in your saved list): key "openPathEventFavorites"
- Return navigation from the saved page (current session only): key "openPathFavoritesReturn" in sessionStorage
- Method search terms: key "openPathSearchTags"
- Blog search terms: key "openPathBlogSearchTags"
- Active blog category: key "openPathBlogCategory"
- Blog sorting: key "openPathBlogSort"
- Quick-help filter (selected method IDs): key "openPathQuickHelpFilterIds"
- Quick-help choices (time, place, goal for the filter banner): key "openPathQuickHelpFilterAnswers"
- Filter visibility: key "openPathShowFilters"
- Search visibility: key "openPathShowSearch"
- Active methods category: key "openPathCurrentCategory"
- Methods sorting: key "openPathSort"
Storage is only used to remember your choices on this device. You can delete these entries at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage, removing site data, or deleting the language cookie in your browser settings.
2. Contact Form
When you use the contact form at `/contact`, you voluntarily submit your name, email address, subject, and message. This information is sent encrypted to our server and forwarded by email to the operator (email service Resend). Open Practice does not permanently store contact content in its own database.
To prevent abuse, the requester's IP address may be counted temporarily for rate limiting. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure communication) or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request is contract- or pre-contract-related.
3. External Libraries – jsPDF
This website loads the jsPDF library from a CDN (Content Delivery Network: https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com) for PDF export on methods, blog, and static pages. When loading this library, technical data such as your IP address may be transmitted to the CDN provider. This only happens when you use the PDF export function.
4. Cloudflare Web Analytics
This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to collect anonymous visitor statistics (e.g., page views per day, geographic distribution). Cloudflare Web Analytics is:
- Cookie-free and GDPR compliant
- Does not collect personal data or IP addresses
- Does not enable cross-site tracking
- Used solely to improve the service
The script is automatically provided by Cloudflare. More information: Cloudflare Web Analytics
5. Favicon and Resources
The favicons (website icons) are loaded by your browser from local project storage. No external data transfer takes place.
6. What We DO NOT Collect
- No marketing tracking (Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, etc.)
- No advertising cookies
- No detailed usage profiles for visitors to the public website
- No registration requirement for methods, blog, events, or static pages
- No permanent storage of contact form content on Open Practice servers
7. Your Rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, and data portability within the limits of applicable law. Because the public website does not store user profiles, this mainly concerns data you send via the contact form and settings stored locally in your browser. You can view and delete the latter in your browser's developer tools (Application → Local Storage / Cookies) at any time.
8. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to adapt this privacy policy if data processing on this website changes.
